As I continue to read, I have noted several times that Donalyn restates how important it is to give the children self selected reading time daily in a book that they pick. It is about creating a love of reading to last a lifetime. Imagine if WE could ignite that fire in first grade (or kindergarten or second...). I think about how I have leveled so many books in my personal library. Then I think to The Sisters and The Daily 5 philosophy. It seems to go hand and hand with that of The Book Whisperer. Any thoughts?
As always, the first 3 friends to leave a comment will get this unit for FREE! I am working on the other 4 vowels and hope to have them posted by the end of the week. Hope you have tomorrow off:)
I read "The Book Whisperer" last summer along with Daily 5 and Cafe! I think they definitely go hand in hand. I learned so much from all three but have not really tackled implementing Cafe yet...baby steps:) You don't have to count me in for your new product as I won't have much use for it in 4th. Looks great though!

Book Whisperer is one of the most freeing books I have read. I quit doing morning work and now kids come in and read til bell rings. So inspiring.

It's a wonderful book - my favorite professional read from last year. Donalyn isn't afraid to put it out there.

I also have read The Book Whisper, Daily 5 and The CAFE books. I really enjoyed them all but I felt that The Book Whisper gave a lot of great ideas for students in upper grades. I did take some ideas and placed them in my second grade classroom but most of my class ideas come from The Two Sisters and Debbie Miller's book, Reading with Meaning! Love, Love, Love her. She has a new revised book out and I have not received my copy yet. Can't wait to get it and read, read, read it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming over to my blog and commenting on my post. I love pinterest and I spend way too much time pinning things. Have a great week!
